Long-Range Water Supply System Plan -
Moline, Illinois
Facility planning studies have been conducted by Greeley and Hansen periodically throughout the years with the assistance of the City of Moline Water Department. Improvements were made to the facility in the 1970's and 1980's which included increasing the plant's filtered water storage capacity, construction of wastewater holding facilities, upgrade of filters to dual media and the addition of variable speed drives to the low lift pumping facilities.
When it became clear that another round of upgrades would be necessary, Moline retained Greeley and Hansen to develop a comprehensive long-range plan based upon:
- Detailed field inspections and testing of existing plant facilities
- Evaluation of several existing and new plant alternatives to determine their relative merits and costs
- Evaluation of the impacts that anticipated SDWA regulations would have on Moline's water supply
- Studies on the plant's hydraulic and process systems to determine what future treatment modifications and additions would be required.
Based on these and additional findings, Moline determined that continued upgrading and expansion of the existing plant was the proper decision. Phase one improvements currently in the design stage include:
- Addition of pre-sedimentation facilities in existing plant basins
- New hydraulic cone-type solids contact units for enhanced lime softening and clarification
- Building additions to provide needed space
- New laboratory
- New SCADA System
- Modifications to the existing high lift pump including new motors, variable speed drives and soft starts for existing motors
- New filter rate controllers
- New filter influent, wash water and wash water drain valves
- Significant rehabilitation and replacement of existing plant structures and equipment.
